Burning Candles, not Qurans

Clergy Beyond Borders’ partner Rev. Steven Martin was co-organizer for a candle-light service on September 12 in Oak Ridge, TN, at which CBB’s Imam Yahya Hendi spoke.

Here, in pictures courtesy of Elisabeth Martin, is a brief chronology of the event.

A range of religious leaders participated....

along with hundreds from the Oak Ridge area.

Attendance at the event, which included prayer, song and candle light, was estimated at 300 by one journalist, and the event was covered by Tennessee, Florida and national news sources.

Speakers included Rev. Steve Martin, of the New Evangelical Partnership for the Common Good, and Imam Yahya Hendi, founder and president of Clergy Beyond Borders.

Imam Hendi also spoke to a crowd of 500 in Louisville, KY, as mid-western communities continue to seek information about Islam. Check back for speech content and other details after the Jewish holidays.
