Board member Rabbi Nancy Fuchs-Kreimer posted an article on “Educating Leaders for a Multi-Religious World.”
Ingrid Mattson, President of the Islamic Society of North America, who participated in CBB’s December conference, is highlighted in the article.
One topic Fuchs-Kreimer stressed is a “curriculum infusion” (versus “bonus”) view of multifaith studies:
Curriculum Infusion– Many speakers agreed that adding extra courses, as if multifaith was an added on bonus/elective, was not the best way to transform seminary education. Rather, we need to think about how the formation of our clergy in all its aspects might reflect an awareness of the multifaith world they will confront.
At CBB’s December Conference, Rabbi Simkha Weintraub suggested that clergy in the Abrahamic faiths should know one another’s traditions well enough to question acts that contradict basic teachings. Seminary education is one route — continuing dialogue is another.
